About Bonban
Bonban (bonban.com) is an independent directory of chocolate businesses in the United States, paired with original guides to buying, tasting and working with chocolate. It exists because searching for a chocolatier usually surfaces the same three national brands and a page of supermarket results, and the person hand-rolling truffles four blocks away never appears at all.
How listings get here
Place records are compiled from Overture Maps, an open map data project, and filtered down to businesses that sell or make chocolate and confectionery. Nobody pays to be listed and nobody can pay to rank higher. There is no submission fee, no featured tier and no sponsored placement inside the directory itself.
Each listing is sorted into one of six categories - chocolatier, bean to bar maker, chocolate shop, candy and confectionery, chocolate cafe, or factory and tours - based on the business name and the categories attached to the source record. The descriptions and the attribute tags on each page are written by us and describe what that kind of business typically offers. They are not claims about a specific shop, and the source data contains no hours, ratings, prices or menus.
What this means in practice
Treat every listing as a starting point. Small chocolate kitchens keep short and seasonal hours, close for production weeks, move premises and shut down. Always call or check the shop's own site before making a trip. If a listing is wrong, we would genuinely like to know.
Corrections and removals
Every listing page has a "submit a correction" link that opens a prefilled email. You can also write to hello@bonban.com with the page address and what needs changing. Business owners who want a listing removed entirely only need to ask, and we will remove it at the next data refresh. No justification required.
The guides
The guides section is written specifically for this site. Where a guide makes a factual claim about regulation, nutrition or food safety, it links to the primary source so you can check it yourself. Those citation links go to government agencies, universities and non-commercial institutions, and they are ordinary editorial links.
The calculators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into them is transmitted or stored.
How the site is funded
This site contains affiliate links and may earn a commission when you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. Advertising units are labelled where they appear. Affiliate relationships have no effect on which businesses are listed, how they are described, or the order they appear in. Full detail is on the affiliate disclosure page.
